- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ tablespoon sugar
- 3 tablespoons oil or melted butter
- ¾ cup water (or as needed)
For the Filling:
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheese of your choice)
2 tablespoons cream cheese (optional for extra richness)
1 tablespoon dried herbs (optional: oregano, thyme)
For Cooking:
2 tablespoons butter (for brushing)
Extra oil for cooking
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
Add in the oil (or melted butter) and start adding water, a little at a time, while kneading the dough until it forms a soft, smooth, and non-sticky dough.
Cover with a damp cloth and let the dough rest for 10–15 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
- In a bowl, combine shredded mozzarella cheese and cream cheese (if using).
- Mix in the dried herbs (optional), and set the mixture aside.
Step 3: Shape the Parathas
- After the dough has rested, divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- Roll out each dough ball into a small circle, approximately 4–5 inches in diameter.
- Place a generous amount of the cheese mixture in the center of each rolled dough circle.
- Pinch the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside.
- Roll the stuffed dough ball gently into a flat round paratha.
Step 4: Cook the Parathas
- Heat a tawa or non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Place the rolled-out paratha on the heated pan and cook for 1–2 minutes until bubbles form on the top.
- Flip the paratha and brush one side with butter or oil.
- Flip again and cook the other side, brushing with more butter until the paratha is golden brown and crispy.
Step 5: Serve
Serve the cheese-stuffed parathas hot, with a side of yogurt, pickle, or chutney.
For extra flavor, drizzle with melted butter.
Additional Notes
Resting the dough helps achieve a soft texture, so don’t skip this step.
Filling variations: You can add sautéed vegetables or meats along with the cheese for extra flavor.
Storage: Store any leftover parathas in an airtight container for 1–2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
