- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Mushroom Gravy Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties.
- Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the hamburger patties for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and nicely browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic, and sauté until the mushrooms are tender and slightly browned.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir well to coat. Cook for about 1 minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens.
- Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve the hamburger steaks with mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes or rice, and enjoy!
