Hamburger Steak Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Mushroom Gravy Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties.
  3. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the hamburger patties for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and nicely browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic, and sauté until the mushrooms are tender and slightly browned.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir well to coat. Cook for about 1 minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
  6. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens.
  7. Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  9. Serve the hamburger steaks with mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes or rice, and enjoy!
