Servings & Timing

Servings: 8–10 slices
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chill Time: 3–4 hours
Total Time: About 4 hours

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 can (14 oz / 395g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 packet (0.4 oz / 12g) unflavored gelatin
  • ¼ cup cold water (for blooming gelatin)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional:

  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk (for richer texture)

Tools You’ll Need

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Mixing bowl
  • 8×8 glass dish or loaf pan
  • Spatula

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Bloom the Gelatin

In a small bowl, add cold water.
Sprinkle gelatin evenly over the water.
Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes thick and sponge-like.

2. Heat the Milk Base

In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine:

  • Milk
  • Heavy cream
  • Sweetened condensed milk

Whisk gently until warm.
Do NOT boil — it should be hot but not bubbling.

3. Dissolve the Gelatin

Add the bloomed gelatin into the warm milk mixture.
Whisk continuously until fully dissolved and smooth.

Add vanilla extract.

If using powdered milk, whisk it in now.

4. Pour & Set

Pour the mixture into a lightly greased or parchment-lined dish.

Tap gently to remove air bubbles.

Refrigerate for at least 3–4 hours, or until completely set and firm

5. Slice & Serve

Run a knife along the edges.
Slice into squares.

The texture should be:

  • Soft
  • Light
  • Slightly airy
  • Creamy and tender

Texture Notes

This dessert has a delicate, slightly bubbly structure similar to:

  • Milk sponge
  • Light panna cotta
  • Creamy soufflé texture

It melts gently in the mouth.

Optional Flavor Variations

  • Add lemon zest for freshness
  • Add 2 tablespoons cocoa powder for chocolate version
  • Add coconut milk instead of cream
  • Top with caramel drizzle
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon

Storage

Refrigerator: 4–5 days in airtight container
Do not freeze (texture may break)

Pro Tips

  • Do not boil the milk mixture.
  • Make sure gelatin fully dissolves.
