  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes (includes rise time)

Ingredients List

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300ml warm water
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, dry yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the warm water, mixing as you go, until the dough comes together.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 2: Let the Dough Rise

  1. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
  2. Place it in a warm area to rise for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Step 3: Shape and Prepare for Baking

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F).
  2. Once the dough has risen, divide it into your desired shape and size (round or oval works well).
  3. Place the shaped dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Brush the top of the dough with a little water and, if desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for added flavor and texture.

Step 4: Bake the Bread

  1. Bake the bread for 15-20 minutes or until it’s golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the bread cool on a wire rack.

Step 5: Enjoy!

  1. Once cooled, slice and serve. This bread is perfect on its own, or with dips, spreads, or as a side to your favorite dishes.

Additional Notes

  • Flavor Variations: You can also add herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftover Turkish bread in an airtight container or wrap in plastic to keep it fresh for 2-3 days. It can also be frozen for up to 1 month.
