  • Total Time: ~15 minutes

Ingredients List

  • 4 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: garlic powderherbs (oregano, parsley), or chili flakes for extra flavor

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Toast

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. If using, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the other side of the bread for extra creaminess.

2. Add the Cheese

  1. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheese over the buttered side of the bread.
  2. You can also add seasonings like garlic powderherbs, or chili flakes on top of the cheese for additional flavor.

3. Toast the Bread

  1. Place the prepared slices of bread onto a baking sheet, buttered side up.
  2. Bake for 5–10 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.

4. Serve

  1. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
  2. Cut the cheesy toast into halves or quarters and serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with a side of tomato soup for a classic combination.
  • Pair with salads for a quick lunch or snack.
  • Top with avocado slices, a poached egg, or crispy bacon for an even heartier meal.

Storage

  • Refrigerator: Store leftover cheesy toast in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for a crispier texture.
  • Freezer: Freeze unbaked cheesy toast for up to 1 month. Bake directly from frozen for about 10-12 minutes.

Tips & Variations

  • Vegan Version: Use dairy-free cheese and plant-based butter.
  • More Flavor: Add sautéed onionsmushrooms, or tomato slices on top before baking.
  • Spicy Kick: Sprinkle jalapeños or sriracha sauce for a spicier version.
