Cooking Time and Serving
- Preparation time: 15 minutes
- Cooking time: 35 minutes
- Total time: 50 minutes
- Servings: Approximately 4–6 jars (8 oz each)
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 2 cups diced apples (peeled, cored)
- 1 cup chopped dried figs
- 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 cups granulated sugar (adjust based on sweetness preference)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Optional: 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
How to Make Christmas Jam
- Prepare the fruit: Wash cranberries, peel and dice apples, and chop dried figs.
- Cook the fruit: In a large saucepan, combine cranberries, apples, figs, orange juice, and water. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Add sugar and spices: Stir in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Simmer until thickened: Continue cooking for 25–30 minutes until the mixture is thick and jam-like. Mash the fruit slightly with a potato masher for a smoother consistency if desired.
- Finish with lemon juice and vanilla: Remove from heat, stir in lemon juice and vanilla extract (if using).
- Jar the jam: Carefully pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch at the top. Seal immediately.
- Cool and store: Let the jars cool to room temperature, then store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or process in a water bath for longer shelf life.
Notes
- Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your fruit. Cranberries can be tart, so taste and tweak as needed.
- For a smoother jam, blend with an immersion blender after cooking.
- Add a pinch of ginger or cardamom for an extra holiday flavor twist.
- Ensure jars are properly sterilized to avoid spoilage.
