  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Gravy

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make the Steak Patties

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until just combined (don’t overmix).
Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.

2. Brown the Patties

Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add patties and cook 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
Remove patties and set aside (they will finish cooking in the gravy).


3. Sauté the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add sliced onion and mushrooms.
Cook 5–6 minutes until soft and lightly browned.


4. Build the Gravy

Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and onions. Stir for 1 minute.
Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps.
Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Bring to a gentle simmer.


5. Simmer the Steaks

Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them.
Cover and simmer 15–20 minutes, until patties are fully cooked and gravy thickens.


6. Serve

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
