Faux Dick’s Deluxe Burgers
By: u/BlueEmu:
This is a keto-friendly reproduction of the Deluxe burger, for those who are familiar with Dick’s Drive-in Restaurant in the Seattle area. For those not from the area, Dick’s was rated the “Most Life-Changing Burger Joint” in a non-scientific Esquire poll from 2012.
It’s a pretty straightforward cloning because the ingredients from the menu are simple: Beef, cheese, shredded lettuce, mayo, and relish. The differentiator is the sauce, so the important part is the proportion of mayo to relish and the ingredients in the relish. They seem to use hot dog relish, which is mainly sweet relish with a little mustard.
This makes 2 burgers because who orders a single Deluxe?
Ingredients
2 Keto-friendly hamburger buns
1/2 lb ground beef
2 slices American cheese
1/4 c shredded lettuce
1 Tbsp Butter
Sauce
2 Tbsp Mayo
1 Tbsp sugar-free sweet relish
1/2 tsp yellow mustard
Instructions:
Mix the mayo, relish, and mustard. It should have the consistency of watery tartar sauce. Set aside.
Melt butter in a warm skillet. Toast the inside of the buns in the skillet. Layer the lettuce and sauce onto the buns.
Shape the beef into four (1/8 lb each) very thin patties. Sprinkle lightly with salt and cook in the skillet, adding the cheese on two of the patties at the very end to melt.
Add the patties (2 per burger) onto the buns, with the cheese on top.
Notes:
I prefer Primal Kitchen mayo instead of regular mayo because it’s based on avocado oil instead of soybean oil; however, it’s more tangy and in this case I had to use regular mayo to match the Dick’s sauce taste. The relish I used is Vlasic sugar free sweet relish. The cheese is Kraft Deli Deluxe American.
It looks like Dick’s uses Franz buns. These are simple white hamburger buns. Luckily Franz makes keto buns too. These are a decent facsimile of carby buns when they are toasted. There are also plenty of keto yeast bread recipes you can find if you prefer to make your own.
